The most significant single event during the last year in the Danish MLA was the organization’s 125th anniversary, which was celebrated on 6 November 2025 at an occasion held at the domicile of Danish Shipping, the confederation of Danish shipowners. At the event and the subsequent dinner we were pleased to welcome representatives from the Finnish, Swedish, and Norwegian MLAs as well as Ann Fenech on behalf of the CMI. As part of the celebration, a festschrift was published on various issues with relevance to maritime law and to the shipping industry. The event affirms the position of the Danish MLA as the forum for social and academic exchanges within the community of Danish maritime law practitioners.

On Monday 15 June 2026, the Danish MLA held its general meeting during which a new board was constituted. The chairman of the board since 2023, Lars Rosenberg Overby, had informed in advance that he wished to step down as chairman. A new board was constituted with Mathias Steinø from Hafnia Law Firm as new chairman. In addition, Johan Tufte-Nielsen from the University of Copenhagen was elected as new co-vice chairman of the MLA. After the annual meeting, presentations were given on the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz by Jessica Larsen from the Danish Institute of International Studies, and on the contractual implications of that situation by Harald Søndergaard of Hafnia Law Firm. Moreover, prizes were awarded to Christoffer Henningsen and Daniel Hopmann in acknowledgement of their recent university theses on issues related to maritime law. Christoffer and Daniel are both studying at Copenhagen University Faculty of Law.
On behalf of the Danish MLA, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Lars for his tremendous work as chairman during the past three years. He has succeeded in invigorating our organization with new event formats, which includes short notice ‘pop-up’ seminars on current topics, while maintaining the traditions which form the social and academic foundation of the Danish MLA. Lars has been a long-time contributor to the CMI, and he will continue this work for years to come.
