6th Adriatic Maritime Law Conference (Trieste, Italy, 20-22 June 2024) – organized by the Italian, Slovenian, Montenegrin and Croatian MLA
The Adriatic Maritime Law Conference 2024 is the sixth in a series of conferences traditionally co-organized by the national Maritime Law Associations of Italy, Slovenia and Croatia since 2016. The newly founded Montenegrin Maritime Law Association has joined the AMLC family this year. The Conference is hosted alternately by one of the participating national associations every two years. This year’s host was the Italian Maritime Law Association, that celebrates its 125th anniversary and the venue of the AMLC VI was Trieste.
The Conference participants discussed current global maritime law developments and certain issues common to the Adriatic coastal states. Opening ceremony comprised introductory remarks by the Presidents of the four Maritime Law Associations Giorgio Berlingieri, Boris Jerman, Časlav Pejović and Gordan Stanković followed by their speeches within the keynote session. Besides the keynote session, the AMLC VI included six sessions with twenty-two presentations on the following topics: Energy Transition, Decarbonization and Green Deal in Shipping Industry, Revision of the 1910 Collision Convention, Ratification of the Rotterdam Rules, Legal Aspects of Digital Technologies in Maritime Transport, Maritime Security, Safety of Navigation and Protection of Marine Environment in the Adriatic, Adriatic Seaports and Marinas – Yachts Chartering and Sanctions, and the Recent Developments of Maritime Law.
The Conference was attended by 79 participants from Albania, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Malta, Montenegro, Poland and Slovenia. The next Adriatic Maritime Law Conference will take place in 2026 in Slovenia.
