Italian Maritime Law Association Sailing Challenge Cup 2025
The 2025 Italian M.L.A. Sailing Challenge Cup was raced in Venice on 4 October 2025, hosted by Compagnia della Vela. A very rich edition, with six boats at the start and a squad of excellent sailors, and for quality of the performing SB20 of the Club’s fleet.
The breeze was very gentle, with light Bora airs from N-N.E. blowing over the race track inside the Venetian lagoon, between the islands of San Giorgio Maggiore and San Servolo, off the Biennale Gardens and west of the Lido island. After sailing three closed and intense races, the overall victory went to Giuseppe Duca, helm, the President of Compagnia della Vela and a member of the Italian M.L.A., with Marta Bertoldini and Francesca Martina on board.
The place of honor was for Giandomenico Boglione, helm, the winner of the 2023 edition, with Guglielmo Bonacchi and Antonella Turci as crew. Third step of the podium for Benedetta Nigra, helm, the winner of the 2024 edition, with a crew made of Paola Appeddu and Gianfranco Benelli. Fourth place for Francesco Campodonico, helm, with Julia Vitolo and Lorenzo Pellerano. Fifth place for Giandomenico Milillo, helm, with Zoe Buttignol, Eugenia Casadio and Alberto Pasino, and sixth place for Andrea Facco, helm, with Giulia Fioretti and Enrico Salvatico.
Following a nice day of tight racing at sea, a guided tour to the magnificent Doge’s Palace was arranged, with the participants taking pleasure in admiring the stunning renaissance stair cases, the great Council Chamber, the other Grand Cerimonial Chambers, all its many highlights and the paintings of Tintoretto, Veronese, Tiziano, Tiepolo.
Thereafter the teams and guests gathered at the wonderful seat of Compagnia della Vela located next to the Royal Gardens in San Marco square for a most enjoyable prize-giving dinner, with lots of sharing stories from the racing and discussion towards the 2026 edition of the regatta.
