The Tokyo Conference of the Comitรฉ Maritime International (CMI) commenced on May 14, 2025, with an official Opening Session held in the Fuyo Room (East and Central) at the grand Hotel New Otani Tokyo, attended by over 450 registrants.
The session featured welcome addresses from prominent leaders in the field of maritime law and international governance:
โข Ann Fenech, President, CMI – Comitรฉ Maritime International
โข Professor Tomotaka FUJITA, President, JMLA (University of Tokyo)
โข Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General, International Maritime Organization (IMO)
โข Mr. Satoru Mizushima, Vice-Minister for Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan
This opening marked the beginning of a week dedicated to advancing dialogue, collaboration, and development in maritime law.

On 14 May 2025, a highlight of the CMI Tokyo Conference was the Berlingieri Lecture, titled:

The keynote address was delivered by Josรฉ Angelo Estrella Faria, recently retired Principal Legal Officer and Head of the Legislative Branch, International Trade Law Division, Office of Legal Affairs, United Nations.
Mr. Estrella Faria provided valuable insights into the evolution of maritime law, the role of the CMI – Comitรฉ Maritime International in legal harmonisation, and the importance of sustained international cooperation.
