Guatemala MLA Updates
The Guatemalan Association of Maritime and Port Law (ASOGUADEMAP) is deeply honoured to have been admitted as a member of the Comité Maritime International (CMI). This marks not only a significant milestone for Guatemala, but also a proud and historic moment for the Central American region.
Being welcomed into such a prestigious international forum reflects years of dedication to the study, promotion, and development of maritime and port law in our country. It is a testament to the commitment and vision of our legal and maritime community.
We firmly believe that this recognition will serve as a catalyst for greater collaboration, knowledge exchange, and legal advancement across Central America. ASOGUADEMAP is committed to contributing actively to the mission of the CMI and to paving the way for regional engagement in shaping the future of maritime law on a global scale.
As a woman leading this association, it is also deeply meaningful to take part in this achievement—representation matters, especially in a field where female leadership continues to grow and break new ground. It is my hope that this milestone will inspire more women in our region to engage in maritime law and assume leadership roles in this vital sector.
I would especially like to thank our Vice President, Mr. Omar Barrios Osorio, whose vision and leadership since the founding of ASOGUADEMAP have been instrumental in reaching this achievement. My sincere gratitude also goes to all our members who have believed in this project and contributed to making this milestone possible.
Finally, I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Ann Fenech for her steadfast commitment to expanding the CMI’s reach and inclusivity. Her efforts to welcome new countries into the organization have created meaningful opportunities for associations like ours to be part of the global maritime legal community.
