KMLA held a joint seminar with Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration on 31 October 2023.
The Korea Maritime Law Association (KMLA) held a joint seminar with Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) on 31 October 2023 with the topic of “Study on the Cases and Procedures of the Maritime Arbitration in South Korea and Singapore”. This was a part of 2023 Seoul ADR Festival program.
Mr. C. W. Lee of Kim & Chang, on behalf of KMLA, presented the aspects of maritime arbitration in South Korea in particular the cases are largely related to either voyage charter dispute with large volume cargo importer or bill of lading dispute arising from domestic container liner bill of lading. He commented that there could be more arbitration cases which are related to shipbuilding cases.
Mr. Chang Leng Sun, Senior Counsel of Singapore Supreme Court, also presented about the arbitrators’ power in Singapore and in what circumstance an arbitration award could be set aside by the Courts. Before this, Mr. Lee Shi Yan, Registrar of SCMA, also presented the introduction to Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration including key features of the procedures.
Ms.Yoon, Seug-Hee, the President of KMLA, attended the seminar and welcomed the delegates from Singapore and other countries.
