Montenegro MLA
As expressed during the Assembly, this membership marks a historic milestone for both our Association and our country. Being a small country with a longstanding maritime tradition, Montenegro is well positioned to contribute meaningfully to the global maritime legal dialogue, and our Association is eager to play an active role within the CMI.
1. Strategic Developments and Initiatives At the national level, we are currently focused on developing our strategic priorities. One of our key objectives is to strengthen institutional collaboration with the national maritime administration and the judiciary. In this context, we aim to take stronger presence in implementation of international maritime law conventions and drafting of maritime legislation. Also, we are preparing an initiative aimed at enhancing the competence of the Commercial Court in maritime matters—including the proposal to establish a dedicated department for maritime disputes and ship arrest cases, with the goal of improving specialization among judges in maritime law. We are also organizing a series of webinars and professional discussions among our members, with the aim of deepening engagement on current issues in maritime law and fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas.
2. Promoting the CMI activities and International Collaboration As a new member of the CMI, our Association will be hosting special events dedicated to raising awareness about the CMI’s work and encouraging national engagement with its projects and goals. Particular attention will be given to ongoing topics such as Lex Maritima – The Tokyo Principles of Maritime Law, with the aim of promoting active contributions to CMI working groups and discussions. We are currently finalizing the development of our Association’s website, which will serve as a hub for our activities and resources. Once completed, it will be shared with the CMI and member associations.
3. Reflections from Tokyo Last but not least, I would like to share my sincere impressions from the Tokyo Conference. It was a true pleasure and honour to participate in such a well-organized event. The warm welcome extended by the Japanese Maritime Law Association, the excellent structure and content of the conference panels, as well as the thoughtful organization of sigthseeing activities, made the entire experience exceptional. Tokyo itself is an impressive city, vibrant and beautiful. On behalf of our Association, I also wish to express our heartfelt thanks for the warm welcome we received from the CMI Madam President, Madam Secretary-General, the Executive Council members and the representatives of national associations from around the globe. We deeply appreciate the support and encouragement, and look forward to to a productive and collaborative journey ahead.
