Francesco Berlingieri Essay Prize 2025
The winner of the Francesco Berlingieri Essay Prize 2024 is Mariagiulia Previti, Italy, with her Essay on “Protection of the Marine Environment, between strategical legislation and operational instruments. The role of Maritime Spatial Planning and of Vessel Traffic Service”.

Runner up is Sharon Msiza, South Africa, with her Essay on “Autonomous Ships and Fire: a Study into various damages and/or losses, and resultant liabilities and their limitation”.
Special mention has been made for Renato Petzoa Huerta, Chile, for his Essay “Method and System of Marine Insurance as an autonomous legal discipline”.
The awarding ceremony took place in Genoa the 4 July 2024 at Tursi Albini Palace (see picture below), the seat of the Municipality of Genoa, in the course of the Symposium celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Quarterly IL DIRITTO MARITTIMO(R), the oldest Shipping Law Journal in the world, founded in 1899, like the Italian MLA, by Francesco Berlingieri sen.
The Journal is now inviting submissions for the Francesco Berlingieri Essay Prize 2025.
