German MLA – deed Association1898
In the year 1898 (eighteen hundred and ninety-eight) on Thursday, 23 (twenty-three) June in the afternoon at 2½ o’clock in this free Hanseatic City of Hamburg, I, the public and sworn Hamburg notary Robert Alfred Des Arts, Doctor iuris, at the request of the President of the Higher Regional Court Dr Ernst Friedrich Sieveking, have gone to the Stock Exchange Hall № 12 in the Stock Exchange building here to attend the stated Constituent General Meeting of the members of the German Association for the Establishment of a Uniform International Maritime Law of the Sea (Deutscher Verein zur Herbeiführung eines einheitlichen internationalen Seerechts) , and to keep an official record of the resolutions and elections, by virtue of which I state as follows:
This Constituent General Assembly was convened by means of invitation cards stating the following agenda:
Constitution of the Association, election of the Central Committee and the Board of Directors.
At 2½ o’clock, the President of the Higher Regional Court, Dr Sieveking, who chaired the meeting, opened the General Meeting, at which the 83 (eighty-three) members listed in the attendance list attached to these minutes were present, according to the invitation cards issued. After a few introductory words concerning the reason for the foundation of the association and its purpose, the chairman announced that Messrs.

had agreed to assume the Honorary Presidency of the association to be founded.
Moving on to the agenda, the Chairman, finding no objection, first stated that the statutes attached to these minutes were recognised by the signatures of the members and declared the German Association for the Establishment of a Uniform International Law of the Sea to be constituted, also finding no objection.
Moving on to the second item on the agenda: Election of the Central Committee and the Board of Directors, The Chairman drew attention to the fact that 7 members had to be elected to the Board and 25 members to the Central Committee; in order to facilitate the elections, the personalities named on the ballot papers were proposed to the members, but of course without prejudice to the freedom of choice.
Mayor Dr. Versmann requested that the election of the proposed members of the Central Committee and the Board of Directors be carried out by acclamation.
Mr Geo. Plate, Bremen, moved that Mr L. Groninger, Bremen, be elected in place of Dr Franz A. Bonner, who had been proposed as a member of the Central Committee; as no objection was raised, the Chairman declared that the proposed members of the Central Committee and the Board, with the amendment proposed by Mr Geo. Plate are unanimously elected by acclamation.
The Chairman then announced that the German members of the Comité Maritime international mentioned in Art. 3 para. 1 of the Statutes, who are members of the Central Committee of the Association in accordance with the Statutes, are currently Messrs.

Finally, the Chairman announced that Mr. C.F. Laeisz had requested that the name of the Association be shortened for the sake of simplicity and that the Association be given the name German Association for International Maritime Law (Deutscher Verein für Internationales Seerecht) which motion was accepted unanimously by acclamation without any opposition.
Having thus completed the agenda, the Chairman closed the meeting.
This protocol, the original of which remains in my, the notary’s, custody, has been recorded and signed by me, the notary, with my official seal affixed in order to authenticate its contents.
