III Adriatic Maritime Conference in Grado – Report
On 24-26 May 2018 the Italian, Slovenian and Croatian Maritime Law Associations organized in Grado (Trieste) the third edition of the Adriatic Maritime Law Conference.
The format reflected that successfully adopted for the previous two conferences which took place in Portoroz (Slovenia) in 2016 and in Opatija (Croatia) in 2017 with interesting presentations from speakers coming from the various Adriatic coastal States.
The Conference was opened with a session to pay a special tribute and homage to Professor Francesco Berlingieri, President ad Honorem of the Comité Maritime International and of the Italian MLA.
Subsequently the speakers reviewed the main topics of the 1st and 2nd editions updating on relevant aspects.
Other speakers considered the legal regime of passengers’ transportation by sea. Various relating legal aspects were considered, such as jurisdiction, liability, insurance, passengers’ rights (including disabled passengers), and public transport concessions. Speakers from Montenegro and Albania contributed to the comparative analysis of said issues.
A session was devoted to the investigations on maritime accidents involving passengers’ ships and their use in criminal and civil court proceedings from the Italian, Slovenian and Croatian perspective, and to the environmental impact of passengers’ and cruise ships.
After a pleasant tour in the lagoon of Grado, the Presidents of the three associations invited all the speakers and guests to attend the 4th edition of the Adriatic Maritime Law Conference which will take place in Slovenia next year.
