SC on General Average – Contribution to the Newsletter by Jörn Groninger
Following the adoption of the new “Guidelines relating to General Average“ with the standard security forms in Antwerp, some final work had to be done to get the drafted texts ready for display on the website and for wider distribution. This has been completed, and the new security forms have already been used in some real life cases!
With that, the Standing Committee on General Average has now turned to new tasks. In an online meeting in March two topics were discussed. One is the development of another specimen for G/A security, namely a bridging or interim security which can be a very useful tool to gain time in the process of G/A security collection, particularly (but not only) in containership cases. The other question is whether ways can be found to smoothen and accelerate the collection of G/A contributions once the adjustment has been issued. Again, we will seek to explore these questions in close cooperation with IUMI and ICS.
