Venezuelan MLA – IV UCAB Guayana Maritime Law Conferences
On October 19 and 20, 2023, the Venezuelan Maritime Law Association organized the IV UCAB Guayana Maritime Law Conference at the main Auditorium of Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in the City of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela.
The event was sponsored by the Venezuelan Maritime Law Association (Asociación Venezolana de Derecho Marítimo – AVDM), the Venezuelan branch of the Ibero-American Institute of Maritime Law (IIDM), Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB), and WISTA Venezuela.
This is the fourth consecutive year of this event, which was originally organized by AVDM’s Young Maritime Lawyers Working Group.
In this opportunity the Conference was focused on the procedural aspects of the Law and technology. The main focus was to share plans for the future and development of local regulations and procedures.
The Conference had the participation of professionals from all over the country, which included partners from most of the main Maritime Firms in Venezuela: Clyde & Co, S.O.V. Consultores, Compagnone, Querales & Alvarado, Law Assesors, Romar Maritime Lawyers, Bolinaga & Blanco, Omaña, Gonzalez & Asociados, MPGD, among others.
Over two days, the speakers shared with the attendees their insights on the most relevant procedural difficulties and challenges the maritime sector has been facing during the last 20 years. Lawyers, judges, students, government institutions and representatives of various private and public companies were able to actively participate in this discussion panel-type Conference.
On the second day, the Venezuelan Maritime Law Association awarded their traditional and prestigious recognition “Orden Francisco Javier Yánez” to three outstanding personalities: Admiral Carlos Luengo Romero, Admiral José Manuel León Lara and Captain Gustavo González Cañizales for their lifetime achievements within the Venezuelan maritime industry and promotion of the area.
