Marine Insurance

After finalization of the last project of the International Working Group on Marine Insurance (Guidelines for Governments relating to mandatory Insurances under various international Conventions), in November 2016 the CMI Executive Committee decided to change the status of the group from a project-driven International Working Group to a monitoring Standing Committee. 

Given the importance of marine insurance to maritime commerce, and the potential divergence of treatment of marine insurance issues by national jurisdictions, the Committee has focused on an educational and research role in marine insurance.  The work over past 30-plus years has had a significant influence on marine insurance law and practice, and particularly reform.  The Committee regularly liaises with marine insurers, regulators and other stakeholders to ensure a balanced approach to its work.  The group also works with other CMI IWG’s/SC’s to foster cooperation between marine insurers and other industry stakeholders.
